G'day - Marhaba - ahlan

Currently "Farousi" is living approximately 50 kms NE of Perth in Western Australia. Our climate is described in tourist brochures as being "Mediteranean". There are three generations of Saluqis who currently live in our home as part of the family. Their favourite place being the (their) sofas in the family room.

So here's a bit about me . . . . . . . .

I first began with pedigree dogs in UK in 1967, with German Shepherd Dogs, and helping to handle the Setter breeds for a friend at shows. At that time, I could often be found 'hanging out' around the Saluki benches, and exhibitors. This is where I began my love of the breed, and learned so much from many of the [then] long established mentors in Salukis. In effect, I did an 8 year 'apprenticeship' with these wonderful people, before I ever owned a Saluki.

I emigrated to Australia from England, in October 1975. In less than a year, I had obtained my foundation pair of Salukis.  Both of these Salukis held pedigrees from pure English lineage, of what were then, very recent English imports into Australia. Fan (Ch Elbaraka Fazilet) was of totally old "Burydown" breeding, and Gibby (Ch Yasbiq Malik) a delightful melding of "Daxlore" & "Mumtaz".  With these two, "Farousi" was established, and by mid 1976 the name "Farousi" was registered.  In the late 70's I imported a lovely male from the then highly successful "Seafleet" lines, and my basics were covered. From these beginnings I have progressed, sometimes with mixed blessings, and on occasion deep adversity, but always keeping a firm hold on my original goals.

Salukis have been my #1 all encompassing passion for so long now - I can't imagine life without them

Since the change of the century, I have included smooth hounds with some desert heritage to realise my dream of not only keeping true to original purpose, but for my own smooth Salukis which other breeders acknowledge worldwide.

Most recently my greatest, longest held dream has been realised in the importation of wonderful gifts from Bahrain - 4 puppies sired of Bahraini lines and out of a bitch of my breeding I was fortunate enough to send there in 2003.

These feature on a section of their own on this website.

I have held my International judging licence for the whole Hound Group since June 1978, and by the early 80's I had added the Gundog Group (Sporting Breeds) and Toy Group to my resume.

I  have judged in most states of Australia, in New Zealand, the USA, and the UK, and during 2008 I completed judging assignments in Sweden & Norway.

I have some very interesting upcoming judging assignments in my diary - watch out for me !!

I am currently the Hound Group lecture co-ordinator for the Trainee Judge's scheme here in WA, and have also been able to give some input with meetings in Bahrain with Aspiring judges there

Along the way, thru late 70's - early 80's, I owned, bred a litter, and showed Borzois. My first Borzoi was a rescue.

I have also worked for, prepared and showed for, a large Afghan Hound kennel through that same period, and owned 2 Afghans from those lines.

:o)) HIYA ! !
